Steve Swarbrick has over 27 years of experience helping clients make sound investments, preserve their assets, and create strategies designed for a successful retirement. Steve has managed a variety of portfolios for those just getting started, already retired, and everywhere in between. Steve has had success at every level starting at Great Western Bank as the head advisor for their downtown main location in Sacramento. He also was the head advisor for Chase Bank managing six different branches in Sacramento, and surrounding areas. Later he played a major role starting the financial services department for Western Sierra Bank, which was later sold to Umpqua Bank. Throughout his career Steve has worked in collaboration with CPAs, tax attorneys and other financial professionals to ensure his clients have a comprehensive and complete financial and retirement plan. 

Steve has a proven track record to building lasting relationships with his clients, guiding them through important financial decisions and provide them with tools to help them as they work towards their goals. He holds series 66 and 7 securities registrations and insurance licensed. 

Steve earned a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State while playing basketball there and played professional basketball abroad prior to his career as a financial advisor.  While originally from Southern California, He and his wife Teresa have lived in the foothills of Northern California for the past 30 years. They are the proud parents and grandparents of five children and eight grandchildren. 

Outside of the office Steve loves spending time with his family. Providing sports tips to grandkids, golfing with his sons, fly fishing and spending time in the mountains and at the beach with his wife and daughters. Steve and his family are passionate about sports. He has enjoyed coaching his children’s’ teams in the community and is proud to have helped three of them achieve their goals of playing at the college and professional level. He is also an active member of his church and serves as a board member of Brightwater Foundation, a nonprofit focused on clean water accessibility around the world.

Chris specializes in solving tax and financial planning issues for individuals, business owners, and their businesses. He also works extensively with trusts and estates. He has been in practice as a CPA nearly 20 years, working with national and regional accounting firms throughout Northern California. He is passionate about working with individual clients and small business owners to help them achieve their goals and to pay as little tax as required!

Chris graduated from Brigham Young University, earning both a Masters degree in Taxation as well as a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He is a CPA, an AICPA designated Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), as well as a CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™.  Chris is also a past board member of the Sacramento Estate Planning Council.

Prior to founding Hoppe & Cottrell, LLP, Sam was a partner with the public accounting firm Weston & Tuttle, LLP for 15 years and worked in corporate America in the technology industry with a small start-up company and later with Red Hat, Inc. He began his career in Washington, D.C. with the “big-four” accounting firm Ernst &Young, LLP where he worked as a tax consultant in their real estate consulting group and co-authored real estate industry-focused tax planning articles for the Commercial Investment Real Estate Journal.

Sam is a licensed CPA in the states of California and Maryland and is a member of the AICPA and CalCPA. He also holds two securities licenses, series 7 and 66, issued by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and a California life insurance license. He received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Master of Accountancy in taxation from Brigham Young University. He is a product of the El Dorado County public schools, graduating from Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, CA in 1989.
